Winter Restaurant Week brings acclaimed flavors, tastes, bites to D.C.

Updated: D.C. Restaurant Week has been extended by one week

Update: The Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) has extended Winter Restaurant Week for another week until January 27, 2018 at participating locations. “Treat a furloughed friend to a great meal & help lift spirits during the government shutdown,” said RAMW in an emailed promotion to its mailing list. The updated list will be available Monday, January 21 at rwdmv.com.

‘Twas the weeks after Christmas, and all through the city, not a creature was stirring—well, except for D.C.’s foodies, once again hitting their favorite Bib Gourmand, neighborhood-gem and RAMMYS-nominated restaurants all around the nation’s capital. But Metropolitan Washington Winter Restaurant Week is fast-approaching, giving everyone in the Metro-D.C. Region an opportunity for a taste of acclaimed and awarded restaurants. Guests can enjoy the special value-priced tasting menus during this special event, which runs from January 14-20, 2019.

Brunch and lunch will be priced for $22 per person and dinner is $35 per person. Dozens of D.C.-area restaurants are participating and all prices exclude beverages, tax and gratuity. The whole Metropolitan Washington Winter Restaurant Week affair is put together by RAMW, a restaurant advocacy group based in D.C.

Asian, American, Aussie tastes to try during Restaurant Week

For starters at TenPenh, in McLean, Va., Pork Belly Bao Buns with cucumber, cilantro, ginger hoisin, and the Chilled Edamame with Okinawa Sea Salt, honey powder and lemon oil, are options that will get diners yearning for more. Dinner choices on the Restaurant Week menu are just as delectable: Crispy Beef & Noodle Lo Mein with Bok Choy, tomatoes, black bean-garlic sauce, and the Filipino Chicken Adobo, with garlic fried rice and poached egg fire it up a notch.

Try other Asian and Asian-influenced dining choices during Metropolitan Washington Winter Restaurant Week, as well, including Doi Moi, Kyirisan, Raku and The Source by Wolfgang Puck, which, by the way, is having a New Year’s Eve bash to remember (New Year’s Eve at The Source).

The Metropolitan Washington Winter Restaurant Week lineup of eateries is numerous and restaurants serving Contemporary American choices are also standouts. The Bird, City Perch (North Bethesda) and Oz (Arlington, Va.) are just a few of these eateries that offer such tastes during Winter Restaurant Week while tapping global influence.

The City Perch Restaurant Week menu includes an Herb Roasted Chicken with charred cauliflower, arugula cilantro puree, and spiced citrus vinaigrette. One can also opt for the pan-seared Scallops, served with roasted brussel sprouts, cipollini onions, bacon lardons, and a thyme-infused veal juice. The Scallops are an $8 upgrade (supplement), a price bump that sounds worth the splurge, unless you’d rather spend it on one of City Perch’s creative cocktails, instead. Also, the Braised Short Ribs with creamed spinach is another tasty option “sans supplement.”

Straight out of an episode of Bravo’s “The Housewives of Potomac,” Oz taps Australian influence to get the menu a bit more down under. Its Restaurant Week dinner menu includes Rack of Lamb flavored with sesame and turmeric, and a Kangaroo Burger, served with avocado mousse, tomato relish, tomato, and sweet onion jam. For those with a more Westward penchant, try the Chicken Parma, topped with bacon, marinara sauce and mozzarella, or the Scallops with butternut squash.
