Astro Doughnuts unveils CBD doughnut, March flavors

CBD, Birthday Cake doughnuts headline March selections

Astro Doughnuts and Fried Chicken has debuted a CBD doughnut made from CBD oil, the CBD Birthday Cake Doughnut. It could be the first CBD doughnut available in Washington, D.C.—at least that’s what Astro Doughnuts’ announcement suggests. Patrons can purchase the CBD Birthday Cake on a walk-in only basis. Astro Doughnuts also announced its March flavor selections, including the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Coconut Almond “Almond Joy”, Bananas Foster and Cherry Cheesecake doughnuts.

CBD and cannabis-infused foods are a top food trend, according to the National Restaurant Association. The CBD Birthday Cake is made with a chocolate cake doughnut, topped with vanilla glaze, chocolate buttercream with CBD oil, and finished off with sprinkles. Supply of the Astro CBD Birthday Cake Doughnut, which launched February 28, and is priced at $4.50, is quite limited.

All March selections are available as of the 4th. Also, in the spirit of spring renewal, the Cherry Cheesecake Doughnut will be transformed into the Cherry Blossom upon the start of cherry blossom season. The latter will replace the Cherry Cheesecake Doughnut at that time.

Here are the Astro Doughnut March flavors:

  • Banana’s Foster is the banana doughnut of choice: a yeast doughnut with banana rum glaze, cinnamon brown sugar streusel, and butterscotch drizzle; priced at $3.35
  • Cherry Cheesecake is a square doughnut that is filled with tart red cherry compote, cream cheese glaze, graham cracker crumble; priced at $3.60
  • Coconut Almond “Almond Joy” is a yeast doughnut, topped with almond coconut glaze, shredded coconut, chopped candied almonds, and chocolate drizzle; priced at $3.50
  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough consists of a chocolate cake doughnut, with cookie dough glaze, cookie dough filling, and mini chocolate chips; priced at $3.50

Available March 5 only at both Astro Doughnuts locations, the Mardi Gras King Cake Doughnut, for $3.75, is a vanilla-glazed yeast doughnut decorated with green, purple and yellow-gold sanding sugar, topped with a white fleur de lis sugar topping. Customers traditionally order these in volume and on a pre-order basis as supply of this annual tradition is quite limited.
