D.C. Beer Week has added a panel discussion on The Art of Beer, an exhibit at the Heurich House’s Carriage House Gallery. The D.C. Beer Week Educational Series event will be hosted by Phil Runco of Brightest Young Things on August 21. The Art of Beer artists include Mike Van Hall, Kendra Kuliga, Andy Sides, David Kammerdeiner, and Graham Jackson... these artists who design labels, posters and logos for Aslin, 3 Stars, DC Brau, Stillwater, Ocelot, and Right Proper.

Le Dîner en Blanc is returning to Washington, D.C. August 25. This year’s event celebrates the fifth anniversary in D.C. The Davis Group, LLC, which also hosts the events in Boston, New York and in Charleston, S.C., is a full-service event and design company, and has increased the guest count this year to 5,000, from the 4,500 it had last year. Typically, Dîner en Blanc D.C. is a sold-out affair and by invitation only or selection from the waiting list.
JINYA Ramen Bar is opening at Pike & Rose in North Bethesda, Md., August 7, the company has reported. The much-anticipated debut will be August 7; the store will be its third in the Washington, D.C. area. JINYA already operates locations on 14th Street in D.C. and at the Mosaic Development in Fairfax County. The ramen chain is known for specializing in Tonkotsu ramen.
Work recently began on the reconstruction of Kentlands Market Square in Gaithersburg, Md. to revitalize it into an open-air town center. Kimco acquired the shopping center in 2016 for $95M. After $22M in redevelopment expenditures, the updated Market Square will convey an updated feel, featuring wood, stone and brick facades, with metal accent.
The French-Mediterranean concept from the founders of fast-casual CAVA and Cava Mezze should be opening by September at Pike and Rose. Ted Xenohristos, Ike Grigoropoulos, and Dimitri Moshovitis—the same three innovators who founded the CAVA and Cava Mezze concepts—are launching Julii. Their new project, Julii, is a sit-down restaurant and the CAVA founders have hired Sasha Felikson of Doi Moi fame as executive chef.
One such chef is Sasha Felikson, a finalist for the 2017 Rising Culinary Star of the Year Award at the RAMMYS. As the executive chef of Doi Moi, his energy and passion for serving great food and tapping into global inspiration is well known and unrelenting. Felikson helped open Menu MBK in Penn Quarter. Sasha Felikson is now headed to Julii, a French-Mediterranean concept created by the founders of the popular fast-casual CAVA chain.
D.C. Beer Week is back, starting August 19. The D.C. Brewers' Guild and City Winery will be kicking off the celebration for 2018 with Lager Fest. The area’s best lagers will be on display in a collaboration that is forged by the local brewing community. Sample lager-style beers, pilsners and summer faves, in addition to exclusive and hard-to-find brews.
